Who I Am
Hello there!
Introduction ~
I am a mixed media artist specializing in earrings and larger 2D art. In 2008, while living in New Zealand I took a class working with liquid glass (what we call epoxy resin in the US). I’ve spent the last 17 years developing my own technique in making earrings from my original artwork using a variety of mediums and epoxy resin. My larger work is similar to my earrings and often they are inspired by each other.
Inspiration ~
Inspiration for my work comes from the places I’ve lived and traveled to. There are reoccurring elements in my work which are inspired by the colors, environment and culture of the places I’ve been. For example, the reoccurring use of the colors terracotta and turquoise, likely comes from my time living in the American Southwest where these colors are seen in the vivid landscapes, the adobe architecture, turquoise jewelry and colorful artwork. The use of the spiral comes from my time in New Zealand where the spiral is found in Māori art, symbolizing new beginnings and potential, as found in the ocean wave and the fern frond. You may also find elements from the Rocky Mountains, Scotland and Australia in my work. I love color and design and these days consider my work to be mostly figurative in nature.
Interesting tid bits ~
I hate rules. I consider myself a “festival” artist. I am not a silversmith although I love silver and only use sterling silver findings. I am tenacious. I work in themes and all of my earrings are named after the original artwork they are made from. I support science and the preservation of our natural world. I am most proud of my three kids who are adults now and living all over the world. Being a mom has been the single most important and rewarding thing I have ever done. My husband is a gem. It’s taken me a lifetime to figure out who I am and to own it. I think the previous statement is apparent in my artwork today and I strive to support and raise all women up!
THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE ARTS !
